The libretto by Solera, originally written for another composer, was taken from an episode in the Old Testament, and Verdi was so fascinated by this magnificent tragedy that he composed a series of famous melodies, including \"Go, my thoughts, on golden wings,\" which, as mentioned above, was a great success when first performed in 1842. This video is a recording of a performance at the Parma Opera House by Stefano Ricci and Gianni Forte, who both came from theatrical backgrounds. Inspired by Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai's film \"2046,\" this production shifts the setting from B.C. to the near future on a warship in 2046, with the Hebrew slaves as refugees in prison wearing life jackets and Nabucco as a ruthless captain in a unique re-enactment. The outstanding singers, including Mongolian baritone Amartovshin Enkhbat in the title role, and the internationally acclaimed young conductor Francesco Ivan Ciampa, are superb in their dramatic music making.
