The album title, “Le Départ” (French for “departure”), conveys her determination to take on challenges she has not yet been able to achieve. The album centers on works by leading Romantic composers such as Kost, Merz, and Legonti, and also includes “Turiaela” by the French genius Dians—which Miyashita herself premiered in Japan in 2006—and concludes with the widely known “Tango en Sky.” Shoko Miyashita’s technical skill and artistic excellence go without saying, but the album’s high level of polish—thanks to the apt and thoughtful program notes by Hirokazu Sato (guitarist and composer) and his ambitious selection of pieces—ensures it will satisfy not only guitar music fans but also many classical music fans who have rarely had the opportunity to hear solo guitar performances. Furthermore, the excellent sound quality—which captures a crisp resonance that makes it seem as though the performance is taking place right before the listener’s eyes—adds the finishing touch to this album’s excellence.\n\n\u003cshoko miyashita\u003e\nBorn in Sapporo, she began playing the guitar at age 7 and studied under Chuzo Shibuya, Shinichi Fukuda, and Pavel Steidl.
