The solemn and sober vocal pieces sung by the basses contrast favorably with the instrumental pieces that sparkle with counterpoint. Johann Christoph Bach was the son of Heinrich, the brother of J.S. Bach's grandfather Christoph, and the grandfather of Maria Barbara. The piece recorded here is a cantata consisting of a sinfonia and four songs, and is quite a fine piece. Please take a listen.
