Commissioned by the \"Federal Music Project\" at the peak of the Great Depression, Price composed her Third Symphony in the midst of the \"Chicago Renaissance,\" a powerful movement for black writers and artists. Price's engaging Third Symphony shows her growth as a composer. She takes risks, yet incorporates modern techniques, and expresses a wider range of emotions than in the more traditional First Symphony. These two symphonies were performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and recorded in 2021 at Verizon Hall, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Philadelphia.
