Smetana's operas are an indispensable part of the Smetana canon, and his nine operas, including his unfinished works, showcase his talent and unique personality. Smetana's operas were first released on LP during the \"Year of Czech Music\" in 1984-1985. Forty years later, only the Sprafon label has released a complete collection of Smetana's operas. This set consists of genuine masterpieces performed by the best Czech singers who were active on the Prague National Theatre stage mainly from the 1960s to the 1980s. The recordings of \"The Sold Bride\" and \"The Secret\" conducted by Zdenek Kośler are still famous as unparalleled recordings. Also included is a live recording of \"Livushe\" performed to celebrate the reopening of the Prague State Opera in 1983.The set also brings back to life some currently hard-to-find recordings, including \"The Brandenburgers of Bohemia\" conducted by Jan Husz Tihi, \"The Devil's Wall\" by Zdenek Harabala, and \"Dalibor\" by Jaroslav Krompholz. The luxury box contains seven 2-CD sets (only the unfinished \"Viola\" is coupled with \"The Secret\"), one 3-CD set, and a 40-page booklet on Smetana, each packaged with a commentary for each opera. Each booklet contains a poster of the premiere and a photograph of the recording cast. The CDs have been recently remastered by master engineer Alesh Dvoják, and are available on the Sprafone label. The complete collection of Smetana's operas was made possible by the Sprafone label.
