This is a release of the Paganini and Brahms concertos by Francescatti (1902-1991), the "heir to Paganini" with his luminous and beautiful tone and bold vibrato. Paganini is Francescatti's 18th favorite. This 1951 recording is a live recording of the "Proms" with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sargent, the year after Ormandy conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra in the highly acclaimed masterpiece. The recording includes a four-minute-long enthusiastic applause from the audience after the first movement. Brahms is also one of Francescatti's best-known concertos. This recording was made live at Carnegie Hall in 1957 with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Paley. The overwhelming technique and passionate singing make for a unique presence.
