Included here are four sonatas composed between 1789 and 1791. The performer, Kemp English, has focused on the chronological differences in Kogelf's style and attempts to perfect the sonatas' expression by playing them on instruments appropriate to the period. In this sonata, a replica of an instrument made in 1795 is used to clearly bring out the characteristic sound shapes reminiscent of the fanfare placed at the beginning of No. 29. The two-movement No. 30 features a lively finale, while Nos. 31 and 32, composed one year apart, are brilliant works with the style of Mozart's successors.
