This album features Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic, and his brother, Damare McGill, principal flutist of the Seattle Symphony. The album title, "Winged Creatures," was commissioned for this project and is, of course, a world premiere recording. Joel Paquette's "Double Concerto," also a world premiere recording, was also commissioned by the brothers. All of the pieces are fully enjoyed by the intimate ensemble of the two instruments, especially Saint-Saens' "Tarantella," a memorable piece that the brothers performed in a version with piano accompaniment when they were 18 and 14 years old. The performance was enthusiastic and full of the confidence of having played the piece for many years. This is a joint performance with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, which they were members of when they were young. Naxos Japan
