Description:

Alessandro Lolla was an Italian Baroque composer. He studied violin and viola in Milan, and at the age of 15 made his debut as soloist in a concerto of his own composition, which was applauded. He then worked as a string player with the Royal Orchestra in Parma, and from 1802 to 1833 was concertmaster at La Scala in Milan. He was also a highly respected teacher and is said to have briefly mentored Paganini. Most of his works were written for strings, but this album contains rare works for flute and piano, which are world premiere recordings. This is an interesting collection of pieces with an elegant style characteristic of the Baroque period. Both Carbotta and Hossen, who play on this album, are representative players of the Dynamic label. Hossen, known for his series of Paganini albums, is especially worth listening to for his expressive playing. Naxos Japan
