This collection of string quartets was released in 2012 to commemorate composer Joubert's 85th birthday. The second string quartet included in this album is a reorganization from a 2-CD collection (SOMMCD060) released to commemorate the composer's 80th birthday, and it covers the passage of almost 40 years, from "No. 1," written when he was 21, to "No. 3," written when he was 60. It is an interesting collection that includes the changes in British music and Joubert's own musical experiences (No. 1 was written by Walton). Naxos Japan
