Description:

This is a collection of little-known choral works by English organist and composer Howells. Howells, who wrote organ and orchestral works in his youth, is said to have entered the field of religious music only after the death of his son in 1935. The series of choral works on this album are an interesting group of works that also show that Howells was strongly influenced by past composers such as Tallis and Byrd. Performing is an ensemble of 24 students who were selected through an audition process. The ensemble specializes in modern and contemporary British choral works. Naxos Japan
