This recording is from a revival of the stage performance during the Haydn Week in Salzburg in 2015, co-produced by the Mozarteum University of Salzburg and the Michael Haydn Society. The University of Salzburg was originally a Benedictine school with strict religious regulations, but at the end of the school year, students and the court orchestra performed comedies that were open to the public, and even the students who normally led strict lives were able to let loose and entertain the audience. The Benedictine monk Reichsigel wrote the script for the performance, which features the master's search for true art, \"nature\" helping him, and a delightful dialogue between four intellectuals, to which Michael Haydn added a delightful music. It is an elaborately crafted secret piece with plenty of word play.
