Description:
First time in authorized sound recordings! Performed with Munsch, Schippers, Benzi, Soriano and Maréchal! This is a collection of previously unreleased recordings by Jeanne-Marie Dallet, a great pianist in the tradition of the French piano school. The sound sources are provided by the Institut National de l'Audiovisual de France (INA) and the International Piano Archive (IPA) of the University of Maryland, USA. Some of the recordings have appeared on other labels, but this is the first time that they have been officially released. The program features Saint-Saëns, which was her master's specialty. The musicians are Munsch, Schippers, Benzi, Soriano, and Maréchal, making this a dream come true. Born on July 30, 1905 in Givet, near the Belgian border, Dallet began piano lessons at the age of five with his mother and entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of nine. He studied with Isidore Philippe and Marguerite Long, two of Saint-Saëns' top students, and graduated in 1919 with a first prize (Premier Prix). The following year he made his recital debut at the Salle Hérard, and by 1922 had given numerous recitals in France, England, and Hungary.During this time, he studied with Liszt's students in Hungary, was greatly influenced by Horowitz's concerts, and made his first recordings in England for the Vocalion label (then trumpet-played). On May 28, 1926, she again performed with Pallet & Lamoureux, performing all five Saint-Saëns piano concertos in one evening. The success of this concert brought her international fame. An excellent educator, she was a professor at her alma mater, the Conservatoire de Paris, from 1958 to 1975, and gave summer courses in Nice, where she trained many pianists. She made her New York debut in February 1962 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Munch (included in this CD). After that, he frequently visited the U.S. to give concerts and master classes. After practicing scales for an hour every day, he practiced Chopin etudes, and for the last hour he played etudes by Cherny, Alkan, and Moszkowski to conclude his training.Commercial recordings continued for more than half a century, from the aforementioned trumpet-blowing era of 1922 to the stereo LP era of 1974. Dallet, who was also a member of the French piano school and an elegant musician, was most at home with the works of Saint-Saëns, who was a man of supreme intelligence, intense passion, and superb technique. In fact, her session recordings of the complete Saint-Saens piano concertos from 1955 to 1957 have long been recognized as historical masterpieces. This is a rare live recording of her performing with famous musicians, and includes works she never recorded commercially, making this a set that cannot be missed by those who love French piano works.
