The release of the complete unaccompanied Bach recordings made in the last years of the cellist Sasha (Aleksandr) Vechtumov, born in Prague in 1930, was the first cellist to study Bach's works unaccompanied. Born in Prague in 1930, Sacha (Alexandre) Vecsutomov received his musical training from his father Ivan, a cellist, and later studied cello with the great Ladislav Zelenka at the Prague Conservatory. He was a member of the Suk Trio from 1951 to 1956, and won first prize at the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 1955 with Josef Fufro and Mikhail Homizel. Later, he won the second prize at the Pablo Casals Competition in 1959 (the first prize went to Anner Bylsma). He died in Prague in 1989. This recording was made in Rudolfinum, Prague in 1984, the last year of his career.It included the complete Bach Suites, the culmination of his career as a performer. King International
