Description:

Masuko Ushioda is a violinist who was described by master violinist Szigeti as "a rare gem in a lifetime". This is the first SACD release from the original master tapes of the famous recording of her full-fledged debut recording, which fully demonstrates her abilities! Since her debut in Europe and the United States in 1965, Masuko Ushioda has continued to perform with the world's most prestigious orchestras and in chamber music and recitals, Masuko Ushioda. This is the masterpiece recording she made after winning the second prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966. This is the first SACD release after remastering from the original analog master tapes owned by our company. The sound field and quality have been vividly improved, and the CD layer also uses this remastered sound source. Masuko Ushioda (1942-2013) was a young prodigy who made her debut at the age of 13 with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and in 1957, at the age of 15, she won the Japan Music Competition, making her name known throughout Japan. After graduating from Toho Gakuen High School, she studied at the Leningrad Conservatory of Music at the invitation of the Soviet government in 1961, where she studied under Professor Mikhail Weimann. In 1964, she visited Switzerland to study with Joseph Szigeti, and after 21 concerts in the U.S. in 1965, she won second prize at the 3rd International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966 (first prize went to Victor Tretyakov, tied for second place was Oleg Kagan, tied for third place was Oleg Kagan tied for second place, and Oleg Krysa and Yoko Sato tied for third place). Since then, he has been active internationally as one of Japan's leading violinists. This recording of Tchaikovsky and Bartok is her full-fledged debut, session-recorded in March 1968 at Suginami Public Hall and backed by veteran conductor Tadashi Mori (1921-87) and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, which was also the final piece in the 1966 competition, is performed with her sharp technique, youthful energy, and beautiful tone. Her choice of Bartók, a 20th century work, for the coupling instead of Mendelssohn or Bruch is also typical of her, who studied under Szigeti, an advocate of contemporary music, and shows a passionate and powerful performance filled with empathy for the same oriental descent.Szigeti gave her the maxim that "Japanese people should play with the sound of Japanese people," and this is the music selected and performed by Szigeti in pursuit of this maxim. It is no wonder that this recording was highly acclaimed and was recommended by the Recording Arts when it was first released on LP. This reissue uses new high-resolution masters from the original analog master tapes, which were carefully stored by Nippon Columbia, and the sound quality has been improved beyond that of the previous CDs. The new reissue of the original CD features a new high-resolution master from the original analog master tapes kept in strict storage, so the sound quality has been improved beyond that of previous CDs. In addition, the commentary includes the commentary by Masami Warashina that appeared on the original LP released in 1968. In addition, a color photo of the back of the LP is also included on the back of the commentary.
