Description:
A masterpiece by the young Iwaki, who leads a famous orchestra that continues the traditional German sound, is back on SACD! Rare stereo recording from 1968, the year of Kilebert's death. Including a solo by then-commass Urakawa Yoshiya, the young Iwaki performed with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in perfect harmony. Remastered from the original master tapes owned by Nippon Columbia, this is the world's first SACD release! This is a rare recording of Iwaki when he was appointed conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in 1965 and studied under Kahlberg. This is a masterful performance that reflects the rich musicality of the young Iwaki, making the most of the sound of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra at a time when it still retained a strong tradition unique to German orchestras. This is the first SACD release after remastering from the original analog master tapes owned by our company. The sound field and quality have been vividly improved, and the CD layer also uses this remastered sound source. This recording is an important record of the young Hiroyuki Iwashiro, who was only 36 years old at the time of recording, and a valuable collaboration with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, a major orchestra in Germany. In 1960, Iwashiro joined the NHK Symphony Orchestra on its round-the-world tour with Schuchter and Yuzo Toyama, who was then the Permanent Conductor of the orchestra, and this led to a guest appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1963. In 1965, he became the Permanent Guest Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and in 1968, he became the Permanent Conductor of the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1968-69, he became the first Japanese conductor to record Beethoven's complete symphonies for Nippon Columbia.) The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra came to Japan in May 1968 at the invitation of NHK, and Iwaki conducted the orchestra in Japan with Kilebert, who was the principal conductor at that time. Since Kilebert died suddenly on July 20 while conducting "Tristan und Isolde" at the Bavarian State Opera, this recording was made about two months later, during a difficult period for the orchestra (after Kilebert's death, Jochum became the artistic advisor from that year to 1973). (After Kiehlbert's death, Jochum became the artistic advisor from this year until 1973).Under such circumstances, it is significant that the first recording of both was made by Nippon Columbia, and it is significant that Iwaki's recording was made with a major overseas orchestra during this period. Also, the concertmaster at that time was Mr. Yoshiya Urakawa (1st concertmaster of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra) since 1965, which was also a topic of conversation at that time. Iwaki led the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra with energetic conducting from beginning to end, and while there was a certain amount of tension, he also enhanced the beautiful and flowing sound of the orchestra. The sound of the orchestra of the time, including Urakawa's solo in the second movement, was excellent, including the wind instruments, and although there are many recordings from this period on Oirodisc and other media, this recording by Nippon Columbia is one of the most notable. This latest reissue is based on newly digitized masters from the original analog master tapes, and is sure to bring back to life the sound of the period. (1/2)
