The Berlin Baroque Soloists have been actively releasing music on the Hensler label. This album, recorded in October 2020 during the Corona Disaster, features J.S. Bach's \"Horn\" Concerto with the prodigious horn player Radek Babolak! The horn concerto is a reconstructed version of J.S. Bach's concerto for horn, which Babolak has transposed and rearranged to suit the horn. Bach wrote wonderful melodies for natural horn, including the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1, Mass in B minor, and cantatas. Babolak has performed the Suite for Unaccompanied Cello, the Viola da gamba sonata, and many other works, but this recording of the \"Horn\" Concerto is the conclusion of Bach's music. Babolak says that recording with the Berlin Baroque Soloists was a real challenge, and he has completed this fascinating album with \"authentic baroque fidelity\" in mind. Babolak, who plays the softest and most beautiful melodies with almost superhuman skill, plays with one of the most famous groups in the world, and the music is full of joy.The three pieces included here are all concertos for harpsichord and string orchestra, but the original works are arrangements of older works by Bach and others, and are thought to be concertos with the oboe, flute, and oboe d'amore as soloists. The Concerto in D minor, BWV 1059, has only the first nine bars of the first movement, which has been restored from Cantata No. 35 because the introductory sinfonia is identical to the music in that cantata. Concerto in D minor, BWV 974, which is based on Marcello's oboe concerto, is inserted in the second movement of this performance.
