Celebrating Deutsche Grammophon's 120th Anniversary! Deutsche Grammophon will celebrate its 120th anniversary on December 6, 2018. Since its founding in 1898 as a classical music label, Deutsche Grammophon has released recordings of Furtwängler, Karajan, Bernstein, and many other great classical artists. For this album, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who has been exposed to classical music since his childhood, has selected from Deutsche Grammophon's vast collection of recordings what "rings true for him today. The two-disc set contains a total of 18 pieces, ranging from monaural recordings from the 1950s to the latest works by post-classical composer Johan Johansson. From traditional classical music to innovative electronic music, this is truly a look back at the history of Deutsche Grammophon and a sense of the label's ongoing evolution. The booklet includes comments by Sakamoto.The jacket, featuring a photograph of karakami paper by Kyoto-based Kamisoe, was designed by Takuya Minami (professor of information design at Seian University of Art and Design), a graphic designer/artist whose activities transcend genres, including not only art, but also sound, visual, and performance works. The packaging is simple yet warm and inviting. Digipak packaging. Unique Japanese project.
