Originally an accomplished pianist, he conceived the idea of writing his first orchestral work, the Italian Concerto, in 1924. His friend, the violinist Mario Corti, suggested that he use the then-published \"Mythology\" by Schimanowski as a reference, but he ended up adopting a style reminiscent of Vivaldi, a work from the 17th and 18th centuries. Of course, it has a rather modern flavor, but it is quite a lovely piece.Commissioned by Heifetz, the well-known \"Concerto No. 2\" is a powerful and luminous work that defies the \"anti-Semitism\" that prevailed at the time, as its subject matter is taken from the Old Testament and Jewish liturgy, and Heifetz himself is of Jewish descent. The young violinist Tianwa Yang's powerful solos stand out from the thick orchestral sound.
