Krauss, who had admired Gluck from his youth, loved dramatic music, and after becoming court composer to King Gustav III of Stockholm, he wrote many operas and plays for the court. The accompanying overtures are fascinating pieces of music that play a major role in setting the tone of each story. The opera \"Aeneas of Carthage,\" written in 1790, was so important to Krauss that he wrote three long, dramatic overtures to it. The album also includes three overtures for cantatas for Gustav III, whom he served. The Teresia Orchestra is a youth orchestra founded in 2012 in collaboration with the European Union for the purpose of performing historically based classical works.
