Smiley, a key figure in the New Orleans blues and R&B scene, loved and covered by many rock 'n' rollers, has left his historic recordings for Imperial Records, including his hit "I Hear You Knocking" from 1955, on CD. Smiley Lewis (Overton Amos Lemmons) was a central figure in the New Orleans blues R&B scene of the '40s and '50s, sometimes a shouter and guitarist. His warm, smiling face and stage name, Smiley, have endeared him to many. His date of birth is July 5, 1920. His birthplace is Union, Louisiana. His real name is Overton Amos Lemon. He moved with his family to New Orleans, where he started by using his guitar skills to earn tips at various bars in the French Quarter. This CD was recorded at the most important source, Imperial Records, and is a long-awaited CD release for fans.The Bells Are Ringing" hit the R&B charts in 1952, followed in 1954 by the original "Blue Monday," later made famous by Fats Domino's version, and in 1955, the biggest hit tune, "I Hear You Knocking," featuring Huey Piano Smith's piano. This is a parade of historical pieces, including "I Hear You Knocking," which is the biggest hit tune of 1955, featuring Huey Piano Smith on piano. This is a treasure album with original versions of songs covered by rock artists such as "I Hear You Knocking" by Dave Edmonds, "One Night" by Elvis Presley, and "Shame Shame Shame" by Aerosmith.
