Jamaican music evolved from ska to rocksteady and then to early reggae, all while grappling with political tensions and unstable public order. From lighthearted dance music to melancholic love songs. And then to the unease of the streets, the struggles of youth, and the budding of black consciousness. The very landscape the songs confronted shifted, pushed by the atmosphere of the times. Both the texture of the sound and the themes the music conveyed were in the midst of a profound shift. In the grand scheme of global music history, it was but a fleeting moment. Yet, the songs born in Jamaica during these few years were densely imprinted with ideas that would become the "seeds" later generations would draw upon. It was also the phase where the archetypes of the endlessly remade RIDDIM were born, and the skeletal framework of Jamaican music took shape. These songs then spread worldwide through the screen and via cover versions, later influencing diverse genres like rock, soul, R&B, and HIP HOP. The very moment when "a completely new music called reggae" became recognized globally--.

REAL SKOOL MIX 3 - End of the 60s Edition is a collection where RED SPIDER revives tracks born from that intense era as dubplates. Most of the featured artists have already passed away, and the vocals heard here are all irreplaceable.

Alongside tunes already known as RED SPIDER anthems, this 63-minute, 38-track collection is packed with dub plates that are "definitely going to be on the test!"—including some recorded as dub plates for the very first time worldwide. A new landmark foundation mix has arrived, brilliantly capturing the "breath of reggae." Essential listening not just for RED SPIDER fans, but for all reggae enthusiasts.
