Born in Bohemia, Wolfram showed extraordinary musical talent from an early age and studied with Jan Kogelf, a cousin of Leopold Kogelf. He studied law at the university in Prague and worked as a legal advisor to local courts and as a municipal administrator, eventually being elected mayor of Teplice, where he remained until his death in 1839. In Teplice, he interacted with prominent artists and politicians and contributed to the political and cultural development of the city. (Teplice, located about 90 km northwest of Prague, was one of the most important spa towns of its time and is famous for the episodes when Goethe and Beethoven visited.) This album consists of eight collections of songs published during his lifetime and two songs preserved in manuscript form, all of which are world premiere recordings. Each of the works evokes the atmosphere of the era in which Haydn, Mozart, Spohr, Weber, Schubert, and others were active, and the transition from the Classical to the Romantic period.
