Description:
The world premiere recording of the complete "Danube no Kodama", a masterpiece that combines technique and song by Schenck, a composer who knows the essence of the gamba! Johann Schenck is a musician who also played the gamba. The poetically titled sonata collection "L'Echo du Danube" (The Danube Echo) is one of Schenck's most important works, published around 1703/04 by Roger in Amsterdam. It consists of six pieces, the first two with basso continuo accompaniment, the next two with "optional" basso continuo accompaniment, and the last two unaccompanied (the music on this album is arranged so that these three appear alternately). The music is harmonically and melodically deep, with a wide range of leaps and heavy notes, but with a delicate cantabile, as only a composer who knows the gamba can. The richness of expression in the unaccompanied pieces is also astonishing. Although recordings of some of the pieces have been made in the past, this is the world's first recording of the complete works. The gumba player Sofia Dinis, who was trained by Ziperling, W.
