In 2022, five years have passed since the formation of the "Duo Bols & Bjerke" of Christina Bjerke and lyric soprano Nina Bols Longlane, who released Fanny Mendelssohn's "One Year" (DACOCD957). The two first met as soloists in a concert celebrating Nils W. Geese at the Holmen Church in Copenhagen, which was broadcast by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation on radio, and since then they have performed a series of concerts and toured Denmark as a duo. The album "Two Odamaki Flowers," featuring songs by Clara Schumann and Lili Boulanger, was the result of a concert of works by female composers proposed by the Roskilde Music Society in 2020. The concert had been recorded for broadcast by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, but was so well received that this session recording was made. Clara Schumann's taste for poetry overlaps with that of her husband Robert, and the "Six Romances" and "Three Poems" sung on this album are also composed on poems by Robert's favorite poets, including Heinrich Heine, Emanuel Geibel, and Friedrich Rückert.Lili Boulanger also chose a poem from the same period for her text. Frances Jam's "The Expanse of the Sky" is a work of nostalgia and longing, interspersed with words such as flowers and birds that evoke a variety of emotions. Far from the "salon" atmosphere favored in her day, the glorious, avant-garde music of the time is said to be the outstanding appeal of this collection. Tokyo M-Plus
