At that time in London, the flute was all the rage among the wealthy classes as a symbol of education and refinement, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after teachers among the aristocracy. He later rose to become an official musician at the British court.\nThis album features selections from his *12 Sonatas for Flute*, published around 1737, when his career was in full bloom. His style belongs to the clear-cut Gallant style, characterized by purposeful, song-like melodies that go beyond mere ornamentation.
