Description:
Collection of Sevilla Sonatas from the Late Spanish Baroque period on 6-key fluteThe works of Luis Mison, who became a musician in the royal chapel in 1748 and was active under the monarchy of Fernando VI and Carlos III for 18 years until his death in 1766 at age 39, have been discovered and studied more recently, The "Seville Sonata" is another work that has attracted attention. Here three Seville-born musicians tackle it in a lively performance. About the work Luis Misson [1727-1766] was a Spanish flutist, oboe player, conductor, and composer. In Madrid during the reign of Fernando VI [1713-1759], he was flutist at the Royal Chapel and the Royal Opera House (1748-) and became its conductor in 1756. He also composed music for the stage, zarzuela, and chamber music. 1759 saw the death of Fernando VI and the accession to the throne of Carlos III [1716-1788], but Mison's treatment remained unchanged until his death in Madrid in 1766. Recently, five of Mison's sonatas for flute and basso continuo have been discovered, attracting attention because of the scarcity of works for flute by Spanish composers of the same period, and moreover, because the works are very melodious and attractive, and are expected to become a fixture in the chamber music repertoire. <Rafael Ruiberiz de Torres was born in Seville (Sevilla in Andalusia) in 1983. He studied flauto traverso at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Sevilla, where he received a special degree completion award. With a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Andalusia, he studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with the renowned Vilbert Hartzelzetto, specializing in historical flute, and at the Royal College of Music in London with Lisa Beznosiuk. Since beginning her performing career, she has also worked with Gustav Leonhardt, Philippe Herreweghe, Jos van Immerzel, Marc Minkowski, Christoph Ruse, and others, and her CDs are available from Brilliant Classics and other labels.
