This 2-CD set includes two live recordings of Orchestral Space 1966, a contemporary music festival planned and organized by composers Toru Takemitsu and Toshi Ichiyanagi and held during the Golden Week holidays in May 1966, and the second recording of Orchestral Space 1968, held in June 1968, which was recorded live at the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. The live recording of one LP record of the 2nd Contemporary Music Festival \"Orchestral Space 1968\" held in June 1968 is also included. This is the first SACD reissue in a long time since the first CD release as Tower Records Victor Heritage Collection in 2006. Seiji Ozawa (1935-2024) and Toru Takemitsu (1930-96) first met in August 1961.Seiji Ozawa won the Besançon International Conducting Competition in September 1959, and in April 1961, he returned to Japan for the first time in two years and two months as an assistant conductor for the New York Philharmonic conducted by Bernstein, staying in Japan for about five months. Toru Takemitsu recalls his stay as follows. I was anxious to attend the first rehearsal. I had never imagined that Ozawa had memorized my work. I have never known a conductor who played my music so joyfully\" (\"Sound, Silence and Measuredly\" by Toru Takemitsu, Shinchosha, 1971). Since then, Toru Takemitsu trusted Seiji Ozawa, and Ozawa also began to actively work with Takemitsu's works.Seiji Ozawa has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra on its subscription tour in September 1962 and on a concert tour of Southeast Asia in October 1962, his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival in July 1963, his first performance with the Deutsche Oper Berlin at the Nissay Theatre in November 1963, and his debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in January 1964.
