Description:

Henri Vieutin revolutionized violin playing in the 19th century. His student Eugène Ysaÿe insisted that his master's works were "treasures that should be protected at all costs" and that they "should be known in their entirety," and the bicentennial of his birth in 2020 will be an occasion to do just that, as unpublished works that were passed down only to the composer's family have been discovered. The album contains previously unpublished, world premiere works. This album includes three previously unpublished, world premiere recordings of works by Vuetan that are not often performed. The Romance "Memories of Friendship" is a small piece that is said to allude to the first meeting between Wuertin and his wife Josephine, who was five years older than him. My Funeral March" is a heartbreaking piece that he wrote while contemplating his own death after falling ill and losing his physical freedom. The "Fantasy for Voice, Violin, and Orchestra" (in this recording, the orchestral part is arranged for piano by P. Lelio) was written by the famous singer Maria Malibran, who became the wife of his teacher Charles-Auguste de Bériot, and impressed by her wonderful singing, and was performed by the coloratura soprano Erminia Fretzow. The work was written for Erminia Frezzolini, a coloratura soprano. The sung parts are all written in Vocalise, competing with the violin for bel canto virtuosity. Other pieces include "Brilliant Duet," a collaboration with the Hungarian composer Erkel; variations on a theme from Beethoven's Romance; "Elegy," written at the height of Wuertan's compositional career, but around the time he lost his own child; and "Intimate Voices," a collection of pieces written after Josephine's death for Mathilde Lejeune, with whom he developed a friendship. The collection includes "Intimate Voices," a collection of songs written for Mathilde Lejeune, with whom he developed a friendship after Josephine's death. The violin is played by Vilmos Chicos, a native of Belgium and winner of the Henri Voutin International Violin Competition held in Verviers in 2020. Naxos Japan
