Gilbert. However, comic opera was considered vulgar at the time he was active, and he focused his activities in the fields of church music and dramatic music. Except for \"The Merry Wives of Windsor,\" the three dramatic pieces on this album were written after his success as an opera composer, and they are profound and serious works that are a far cry from the lighter tastes of his earlier music. The music for \"Macbeth\" in particular is a brilliant example of his devotion to Shakespeare, but only the overture was published. Here you can hear the suite version with chorus, created in 1889. Also included is the version of \"King Arthur\" arranged by Bendall after Sullivan's death.
