Jupiter, the chief of the gods, is jealous of his wife Junon, and the gods around him plan to comfort her. They convince Platea, the queen of the frog fairies who lives in the swamp, that she is loved by Jupiter. When Jupiter descends into the swamp and begins a sham marriage with Platée, an enraged Junon appears and ...... Marc Minkowski and Roland Perry, the up-and-coming duo of Jean-Philippe Rameau, a giant star of French Baroque music, have created a masterpiece. The innovative production of the comic opera "Platée" (premiered at the Paris Opera in 1999) attracted a great deal of attention at the time for its ability to overturn the conventions of baroque opera performance. Since then, this production has become a fixture in the Paris Opera repertoire, and has been revived in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2015, and 2022. This is a new recording of the 2022 revival staged by Roland Perry, who further refined the acrobatic dances and spectacular scenes, with music-making by Minkowski's mature tact.The film features an outstanding cast of singers, including Lawrence Brownlee, one of the world's leading tenor stars, as Plathe, the title role, and Julie Hooks, a regular performer of this production, as Tully and Foley, the key players in the mad drama.
