Toshiyuki Kamio, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra
Description:
Toshiyuki Ueoka's first CD with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, of which he has been principal conductor since 2016, is now available. This is a chic and charming album, with a stylish selection of music and the performers' theatrical flair. Richard Strauss is a part of the repertoire that Ueoka, who has held posts in theaters and orchestras all over Germany, has always kept in his own medicine basket. The two concertos here include two concertos with the orchestra's principal players as soloists, and the suite "The Townsman's Aristocrat," which requires chamber music-like ensemble skills, with many soloistic highlights in each part. The Copenhagen Philharmonic originated as an orchestra founded in 1843 at the initiative of composer Hans Christian Lombi to perform in the halls of Copenhagen's famous Tivoli Park, and today the orchestra has 65 members and gives about 120 performances a year. In addition to its orchestral repertoire, the orchestra regularly performs in stage productions at the National Opera House and the Royal Theatre. During the summer months, the orchestra also performs in the halls of Tivoli Park, as has been its tradition since its founding (when it does so, it uses the alias "Tivoli Symphony Orchestra").Kaiding, horn, has been the principal (soloist) of the orchestra since 1993, and Fosdal, oboe, since 2003.
