Description:

Mischa Elman's last recording for RCA has been released on CD by Biddulph! Mischa Elman's last recording for RCA has been released on CD by Biddulph. Elman was born in 1891 in the Jewish quarter (ghetto) of Ukraine to a family of klezmer musicians, and began playing the violin at the age of four, later studying at the Academy in Odessa (Odessa). Auer was so amazed by his talent that he invited him to his own class at the Petersburg Conservatory. Auer arranged Hermann's Berlin debut at the age of 13 and entrusted him with the solo part in the English premiere of Glazunov's Violin Concerto at the age of 14. In 1906, at the age of 15, Ehrman made his record debut with Pathé in France, and in 1908 he made his sensational American debut at Carnegie Hall, where he was welcomed by RCA and continued to record for over 40 years. After RCA brought Heifetz on board as its signature violinist, Ehrman began recording for Decca and Vanguard, so this collection of Tchaikovsky and Wieniawski pieces was his last recording for RCA. Seeger was a pianist with whom he performed in the 1950s and 1960s. Ehrman preferred to perform with him, and there are many recordings of them. Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 was the piece that Ellmann played and marveled at when he was brought to Auer at the age of 11, and remained his specialty. The entity of the Robin Hood Dell Orchestra is the Philadelphia Orchestra, named for the summer music festival that the orchestra conducted. The conductor, Hilsberg, was born in Poland, like Wieniawski, and like Elman, studied violin with Auer and was concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra for 19 years before becoming a conductor. Hillsberg was a conductor for the Philadelphia Orchestra for 19 years before becoming its conductor. His first visit to Japan in particular is said to have been a big hit at a time when it was rare for top European and American musicians to come to Japan. This is a session recording in its monaural maturity, and especially tracks 1-12 are balanced more toward the violins, so that even Ehrman's vibrato application can be heard in the clear sound. *The information on the arrangers of Tchaikovsky's music follows Biddulph's information.
