The complete Rachmaninoff: Piano Concertos for two pianos, including Symphony No. 2 arrangement No. 5 and Youth Symphony! Pianist Angelin-Friedrich Rühl-Dolgorquy, who has released a series of ambitious CDs on Polymnie, presents the complete Rachmaninoff piano concertos, performed for two pianos. In the past, piano concertos were usually published with the orchestral parts arranged for piano, similar to the piano-vocal scores for operas and vocal works with orchestral accompaniment. The composer's own arrangements for two pianos were published for Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 to 4 and Arensky's Fantasy on a Russian Folk Song, and it is assumed that they were used here as well. The recording of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 5, arranged by Alexander Wallenberg in 2007 from Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, is already available, but this is the first recording of a two-piano performance of the work. The two-piano performance of Arensky's Fantasy on Russian Folk Songs is also said to be a first recording.Unlike the original, in which the piano plays a brilliant solo backed by a large orchestra, everything is blended with the sound of the piano, giving the listener a new perspective, as if listening to the whole picture from a bird's eye view.
