He was composer-in-residence of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1986-89 and the New York Philharmonic's Marie-Josée Kravis Memorial Composer-in-Residence from 2012-15. He was the Marie-Josée Kravis Memorial Composer-in-Residence with the New York Philharmonic from 2012-15. He currently teaches at the Juilliard School.\n\nHeimdall is the Norse god of light.He is the owner of the horn, Galarhorn, and when this horn is sounded, ragnarok (the destruction of the gods) occurs. The title derives from this and is a dynamic composition. The Oboe Concerto was commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra in 2004.
