It consists of six movements and was inspired by 19th century German poetry. The first three movements are excerpts of three poems from Friedrich Rückert's Psalms. The second half of the piece focuses on the theme of death in Heinrich Heine's \"Brothers Against Each Other,\" while the last two pieces, \"Early Spring\" and \"Hallequin's Song\" from Hugo von Hofmannsthal's poem, are about rebirth, new life, and hope. The soprano singer Irene Verbrugg, the chorus, and a variety of sounds that are played one after the other, draw you into the world of Johan de Mey without making you feel the time, despite the 30-minute length of this large work. The other three works are \"Via Claudia\" and \"Spring\" based on the \"Via Claudia Augusta,\" an ancient Roman road that runs through Italy, Austria, and Germany. Via Claudia\" was performed for the first time in the world by the Landeck Symphonic Band, while \"Spring\" and \"Symphony No. 4\" were recorded live by the Philips Wind Orchestra, under the baton of Johann de Mey himself, making this a very enjoyable album.
