Furthermore, she was named “European Musician of the Year” at the 1998 Eurovision Grand Prix—an annual music competition held by the European Broadcasting Union—and is a violinist renowned for both her talent and her popularity.\nThis album features violin sonatas by Richard Strauss and Josef Marx, performed with her duet partner, pianist Matthias Fretzberger. Composed when R. Strauss was 23, the piece exudes the brilliance of his youth, yet it is also said to be his last work written in the classical style. Furthermore, since the violin and piano are treated as equals, the balance between the two instruments is a crucial element, and the outstanding chemistry between Baich and Fretzberger truly shines through. The coupling track, Marx’s “Spring Sonata,” is reportedly the world premiere recording. Josef Marx was a late-Romantic Austrian composer who was also active as a music critic and left behind a large body of art songs. As 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of his death, this recording was paired with R.
