Description:
German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott is increasingly attracting attention after winning the prestigious German music prize "Opus Klassik Opus Klassik" in 2019. His latest release is a collection of works including Grieg's Sonata for cello. Grieg's only remaining sonata for cello is Op. 36 in A minor, which he composed for his brother in 1883. Müller-Schott has taken advantage of his arranging skills to arrange Violin Sonata No. 3 for cello. The performance makes full use of Grieg's long-lasting melody and the deep sound of the cello. The second half of the concert also includes five songs arranged by Müller-Schott. The songs, which are arranged by Müller-Schott with great sensitivity, convey the feelings of the composer even without the lyrics. The short "Interludes," which precede the song cycle, are short but beautiful original works for cello, and Müller-Schott beautifully portrays the passion of the young 23-year-old Grieg. Piano accompaniment is provided by Herbert Schuff, a veteran of many albums for the OEHMS label and others.Müller-Schott is a longtime duo partner, and they play well together here as well.
