Algarra was born in Granada and studied with Joaquin Achuaro, Bruno Canino, Dimitri Alexeev, and Pascal Roger. Chopin created a collection of preludes consisting of small pieces in all twelve major and minor keys within an octave, similar to J.S. Bach's \"Mean Clavier\" cycle. These \"preludes\" are not \"preludes\" to anything, but are complete works in their own right, serving as a test of the performer's technique and expressive versatility. This original collection of pieces influenced later composers, and Scriabin, Cui, Shostakovich, and many others wrote preludes of the same type. Among them, Rachmaninoff's preludes stand out in terms of their difficulty of performance and the breadth of expression required, and together with Chopin's works they constitute the twin peaks in the history of preludes for piano. *Note that Chopin's preludes do not include his C-sharp minor Op. 45 and A-flat major (his last work).
