The first volume is a collection of orchestral works by Azerbaijan's Kara Kalaev (1918-1982), who studied with Shostakovich at the Moscow Conservatory and was an important composer in the postwar Soviet Union. Karabits studied major works in preparation for the centennial of Kalaev's birth in 2018.
