Marco Fusi, one of the leading performers of contemporary music, recorded these works by comparing the printed scores published by Salabert (transcribed by Scelsi's assistant) with the corresponding original Scelsi recordings. We found that the published score had considerable weaknesses, such as a lack of elements essential to Scelsi's improvisation (e.g., the basic attitude of exploring the possibilities of the instruments). Therefore, he decided to base his interpretation on the original recordings, conducted an exhaustive study of the tapes and ondiolas (keyboard instruments capable of playing microtones) on which Scelsi played, and successfully incorporated the insights and sensations he gained from these studies into his own violin and viola playing.
