The world-renowned authority on ancient music, France Brüchen and the 18th Century Orchestra returned to the Glossa stage after a long absence with Mozart's Violin Concertos and Concerto Symphonies (GCD921108) in collaboration with Zertmeyer. The latest release by Brüchen and the 18th Century Orchestra, who showed the audience that they are still going strong with their overwhelming performance of Mozart, is an orchestral version of Haydn's \"The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross,\" which the duo has been working on for some time. In 1786, while working for the Esterházy family as music director, Haydn received a commission from Cadiz, a port city in western Spain, to compose \"The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross. The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross\". Composed for the Good Friday service of the Cadiz Cathedral, the work is composed of an \"Introduction\" at the beginning, \"Seven Sonatas\" representing the last seven words of Christ on the cross, and \"Earthquake\" caused by the ascension of Christ. It is also known as one of the most important Haydn works of the Esterházy period. The work is also available in oratorio, string quartet, and oratorio versions, and is often performed with readings.After much deliberation, Brüchen asked Dutch-American composer Ron Ford (1959-) to compose an instrumental \"Interlude\" to make more musical and effective use of the blank spaces between movements. The \"Interlude\" was completed exactly as Brüchen had envisioned, and the effect is said to have dramatically enhanced the mysteriousness and sublime atmosphere of the work as a whole. It is no exaggeration to say that this is truly Brüchen's version of Haydn's \"The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross\" performed by Brüchen and an 18th century orchestra. This is an extra-large release worthy of the 200th anniversary of Haydn's death.
