His *Lute Collection* (1517), which includes dance pieces, ricercares, and vocal works by Josquin and his contemporaries arranged in tablature for the lute, is significant not only as a collection of sheet music but also as a historical source documenting the history of Italian instrumental music in the early 16th century.\nPaolo Kerichi, one of Italy’s leading lutenists who studied under Hopkinson Smith at the Basel Schola Cantorum—the mecca of early music in Switzerland—brings to life the melodies and history of the Italian Renaissance.
