The three pieces, named \"Sonatines\" perhaps to appeal to amateur musicians, are highly accomplished early works whose bold treatment of tonality adds depth to the Mozart hymn-like music. And the \"Duos\" and \"Fantasias,\" written in his later years, are characterized by rich virtuosity, sometimes making the piano sound like an orchestra. Piet Kuijken and Naaman Sulcin spent more than a decade studying these works from the standpoint of old-time instrumentalists and devoted themselves to correctly expressing Schubert's spirit. Their compelling performances will delight you with the conviction that \"Schubert used every technical trick in the book, constantly inventing forms and drawing infinite variety from the simplicity that could not be found anywhere else.\" [Naaman Sulcin] studied baroque violin at the Schola Cantorum Basel and was a member of the Diotima String Quartet for seven years. He is also a soloist with the La Chomble Philharmonic under Clivine's direction. He is the father of [Pete Kuijken] Wieland Kuijken. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with top honors in piano and chamber music classes. He then studied with Menahem Pressler. He is a versatile soloist and ensemble player.
