This time, two contrasting works are included. The second, entitled \"Dedicated to the October Revolution,\" is a work from 1927 in which the cry of the workers (or something like it) emerges as abstract music full of chaos and clamor, and finally comes to fruition as a powerful chorus. Written in a single movement, the \"ultra counterpoint\" that appears in the middle of the piece...the 27-voice fugato is a masterpiece. On the other hand, the last symphony, \"No. 15,\" is known as an extremely enigmatic work. It is both amusing and eerie, with quotations from Rossini, Wagner, and other composers of the past, as well as from Shostakovich's own works, flying freely about. As for Petrenko's conducting, it was once again nothing short of brilliant. No matter how intricate the sound form may be, he flexibly unravels it, and then plunges deep into the music to awaken something that lies dormant in its depths. He picks up Shostakovich's mind scattered throughout the piece....
