Although the overture and some arias were adapted from earlier works such as \"The Barber of Seville,\" the premiere was a great success and established Rossini as a leading opera composer in Naples, the most important city in Italian music at the time. For the premiere of this work, a star-studded cast of singers of the time gathered. Among them was Isabella Colbran, who later became Rossini's wife, and who wrote a superb aria for Isabella. This performance combines a recording of the performance at the 2021 Bad-Wirtbart Rossini Festival with a recording of the Opera Festival in Krakow, Poland, which took place just prior to the festival.
