Joplin began scoring his own works after meeting ragtime pianist Otis Saunders in Chicago, and later left a body of work based on ragtime, not only as a performer but also as a composer. His music is highly regarded on the classical music side. This Turimonisha is one of Joplin's masterpieces with its beautiful and spacious finale. The piano score was discovered in 1970, and Anderson's orchestration was revived in 1972 to great acclaim.Later, in 1975, it was performed by the Houston Grand Opera under the direction of Gunther Schuller, and the concert was the talk of the town. The remastering was done by Polyhymnia International of the Netherlands, the pride of the Pentatone label, and it can be said to be a flawless remastering.
