Rossini's "The Siege of Corinth," based on the Greek War of Independence, directed by La Fra dels Baus, a performance group at the 2017 Rossini Festival Barcelona The Rossini Opera Festival is a music festival held every August in the city of Pesaro in the Marche region of central Italy. This video shows a new production of the opera "The Siege of Corinth" performed in 2017. The "Siege of Corinth" (premiered at the Paris Opera on October 9, 1826) was conceived as a French adaptation of "Maomet II" (1920), which was not a success in Italy. Influenced by the Greek War of Independence that broke out in 1821 while the production was still in progress, the setting was changed to the Greek city of Corinth in 1459. At the time of its premiere, it was very popular as a dramatic work that looked good on stage, and was performed in many places in the first half of the 19th century. The Barcelona performance troupe La Fra dels Baus, which made a splash as "Valencia Ring," is participating in the staging of this production, and its core member, Carles Padrissa, is directing the production.The production is innovative in the manner of Carles Padrissa, with projections of the text of Byron's long poem "The Siege of Corinth" (1816) and a wall made of large plastic bottles. The full cast of singers is also noteworthy. Maomet II is played by Luca Pisaroni from Venezuela with his gorgeous figure and imposing voice, and Nino Machaise as Pamila leaves an overwhelming impression with his dramatic singing. The supporting singers are also noteworthy for their abilities. The Russian tenor Sergei Romanovsky is particularly impressive. His performance as Agorante in "Ricciardo and Zoraide" is still fresh in our memories, and he also gives a fine performance as Neocles, Pamila's lover.
