The quartet will be performed without pause.Each movement alternates between calm and rapid tempos, and there is only one movement in the middle that is played gracefully with a waltz rhythm. On the other hand, String Quartet No. 2 was written in 1968 and consists of five parts. Bartók's String Quartet No. 4 is a truly fascinating work that skillfully blends folk music and avant-garde, and was a particularly strong influence on Ligeti. While requiring a high level of performance technique, it is a masterpiece in which Bartók's mastery of stringed instruments brings out unprecedented color and character.
