While Misch’s acclaimed debut album *Sample of Sky* (2023) drifted above the earth on a cloud of sound, followed by its acoustic version *Sample of Earth* (2024), *Lithic* depicts a journey guided by geology and the elemental forces of wind, water, and stone, descending into profound time. The conceptual foundation of this work is rooted in the practice of deep listening, eco-acoustics, and geology. Inspired by Barbara Hepworth, Pauline Oliveros, Annea Lockwood, eco-psychotherapist and author of *Weathering* Ruth Allen, and the writings of David Haskell on the origins and evolution of sound, *Lithic* treats sound as an ancient material—an entity capable of changing shape, weathering, and transforming over time.
